Qusai Adnan, a 32-year-old Palestinian from al-Isawiya, a neighborhood in occupied Jerusalem, was sentenced today to 14 years in prison by an Israeli court on charges of attempted murder and possession of a weapon.
Adnan was arrested in December 2018 after he allegedly stabbed and wounded two Israeli police officers near the Damascus Gate in the Old City of Jerusalem. He denied the charges and claimed he acted in self-defense after being harassed and assaulted by the officers.
Adnan’s family and lawyer said he was subjected to severe torture and ill-treatment during his interrogation by the Israeli occupation forces, which caused him physical and psychological harm.
Adnan is one of over 4,000 Palestinians currently held in Israeli jails, many of whom face similar charges and conditions. Human rights groups have documented numerous cases of torture, abuse, and medical negligence against Palestinian detainees by the Israeli prison system.
