DaysofPal- The Commission of Detainees’ Affairs announced on Sunday that a Palestinian prisoner receiving treatment in an Israeli hospital has passed away.
The prisoner, identified as 37-year-old Muhammad Munir Musa from Bethlehem in the southern West Bank, died at Soroka Hospital in Beersheba, southern Israel.
Musa had been detained by Israeli authorities since April 20, 2023, and was initially held at Megiddo Prison before being transferred to the hospital.
He was a father of three daughters, with the youngest being just three years old.
The commission emphasized that Musa had been suffering from diabetes before his arrest, but no additional details were provided about the circumstances of his death.
“The systematic crimes of the occupation, including torture, medical neglect, and starvation, have been responsible for the deaths of 40 detainees since Oct. 7, 2023”, it further noted.
The commission condemned “the unprecedented and systematic crimes carried out by Israeli authorities,” stating that these actions are intended to “eliminate prisoners under political directives.”
It also called on international human rights organizations, which it accused of “historically failing to address the crimes and brutality of the occupation,” to take action by holding Israeli leaders accountable and putting an end to these practices.
The number of Palestinian detainees from the occupied West Bank, including Jerusalem, has surpassed 11,100 since October 7, according to Palestinian records.
Tensions have remained high in the occupied West Bank amid an ongoing Israeli offensive in Gaza, which has resulted in nearly 42,200 Palestinian deaths, mostly women and children, since October 7 of last year.
At least 751 Palestinians have been killed and nearly 6,250 injured in the West Bank during this period, Palestinian sources reported.
The situation has escalated after a July 19 ruling by the International Court of Justice, which deemed Israel’s prolonged occupation of Palestinian territories illegal and called for the removal of all settlements in the West Bank and East Jerusalem.
