Days of Palestine – Hebron
The Israeli occupation forces on Sunday confiscated equipment and cables funded by the European Union (EU) for the rehabilitation of the electricity grid in Khirbet al-Simiya village, northwest of as-Samu town in southern Hebron.
According to the as-Samu municipality, the Israeli occupation forces stormed the project site, prevented a municipal crew and technicians from continuing with their work, and seized all the equipment and cables that were supposed to be used to install the power network.
93,000 euros has been earmarked by the EU for the project with funding from the Danish government, as part of multiple municipal projects intended to develop Area C of the occupied West Bank.
The electricity project is intended to serve around 2,500 people living in that area.
As-Samu municipality appealed to the international community to intervene and pressure Israel to bring back the seized materials in order to provide local residents with electricity.
