Days of Palestine – Ramallah

Three Palestinian prisoners: Imad Sawarka, Saed Abu Obaid, and Eyad Al-Harimi, continue their open hunger strike in Israeli prisons.

The Palestinian Prisoner Club stated in a press release today, Sunday, that the prisoner Sawarka (37 years) from Jericho has been on a hunger strike for 25 days, and the prisoner Abu Obaid (41 years) from Jenin for seven days now, refusing their administrative detention, in addition to the prisoner Eyad Al-Harimi ( 28 years old), from Bethlehem, who has been on a hunger strike for 6 days, refusing his arbitrary detention.

The Prisoner Club added that the prisoner Swarka is in the cells of "Ashkelon" prison, recently transferred from the "Negev" prison, where the prisoner Abu Obeid is, while the prisoner Al-Harimi is jailed in the cells of "Ofer" prison.

It is noteworthy that the prisoner Swarka was arrested in July 2020, before the occupation intelligence issued three four-month administrative detention orders on him. Sawarka is a former prisoner who spent a total of ten years in the occupation prisons, and he is married and a father of five children.

The prisoner Abu Obeid was arrested in November 2020 and was sentenced to four and a half months. After the end of his sentence, he was transferred to administrative detention, and he went on a hunger strike, knowing that he was a former prisoner who spent nearly twelve years in the occupation prisons.

The prisoner, Eyad Al-Harimi, from Bethlehem, was re-arrested by the occupation on April 6, less than two months after his release, Al-Harimi is also a former prisoner who spent years in the occupation prisons, and in 2016 he went on a hunger strike that lasted for 45 days.

According to Palestinian estimates, there are 4,400 Palestinian detainees in Israeli prisons, including 39 women and 155 children, and around 350 being held under Israel’s administrative detention policy, which allows holding Palestinians without charge or trial.
