Days of Palestine – Jerusalem

The Israeli occupation forces arrested 156 Jerusalemites, issued 5 house arrest decisions for citizens, most of them minors, and deported 11 from Al-Aqsa during January 2021.

The monthly report issued by the Jerusalem Network recorded that the Israeli occupation escalated its attacks and actions against Jerusalem and Al-Quds people, where the freed prisoner, Muhammad Salah El-Din, was martyred due to medical negligence during his detention.

In the details of the report, the Israeli occupation arrested more than 156 Jerusalemites (most of them were released), and the arrests were concentrated in Al-Issawiya, the Old City, Hazmah, Shuafat Camp, Silwan, and Al-Tor, while the occupation delivered dozens of summoning decisions for investigation.

The report also mentioned that 9 Jerusalemite prisoners were infected with coronavirus, and the condition of the prisoner Ayman Sidr deteriorated, due to medical negligence.

According to the report, the Israeli occupation has issued 5 house detention decisions, most of them are underage minors, while the occupation released the sick young prisoner, Abdul Rahman Al-Bashiti, after a major campaign to release him, but he transferred him to home detention away from his home in the Old City.

In the file of deportations, the Israeli occupation issued 11 deportation decisions from Al-Aqsa Mosque most of them reached 6 months and half of the deportees are the guards and employees of Al-Aqsa Mosque.

The Israeli occupation continued to prevent worshipers from entering Al-Aqsa, except for those who live less than 1,000 meters near it, under the pretext of preventing the spread of the corona epidemic, at a time when settler incursions were allowed to continue, and according to the report, 686 settlers stormed the courtyards of Al-Aqsa Mosque.

The Israeli occupation allowed the entry of tools to measure the area and imaging to Al-Aqsa and obstructed the restoration and maintenance operations in all sections of Al-Aqsa Mosque for four days, and the construction personnel threatened to arrest, despite the appearance of cracks near one of the terraces of the Gate of Mercy, and the leakage of rainwater inside the mosque's chapels.

The Israeli occupation also demolished 17 facilities, causing the displacement of dozens of residents. The demolition included homes, livestock pens, and mobile toilets in the Bedouin community of Beit Iksa northwest of Jerusalem, the Abu Falah community in Khan al-Ahmar east of Jerusalem, and the Marj al-Anati area in the town of Anata, east of Jerusalem.

The Israeli occupation also approved the establishment of a synagogue in the Mufti Palace in Sheikh Jarrah, in addition to doubling the number of settlement units around the palace, and approved the construction of 500 new settlement units in Jerusalem.

The Israeli occupation intensified its violations of the lands of the Samreen family in Wadi al-Rababa, in Silwan, south of Al-Aqsa Mosque, and the occupation court rejected the family’s petition against the bulldozing of its lands in Wadi Rababa.

According to the report, under the pretext of the coronavirus epidemic, the Israeli occupation closed – and still is – the doors of the Old City completely, and imposed a siege on it, preventing anyone from entering it except for its residents, which caused heavy losses to the merchants of the Old City.
