Days of Palestine – Jerusalem

The Israeli occupation government continues incitement against the school curricula of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees "UNRWA", claiming that it contains inflammatory contents.

In this context, the Israeli writer Itamar Eichner revealed, in his article in the newspaper "Yediot Aharonot", that "Canada has started an official investigation into what it said are inflammatory contents in the textbooks of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees – UNRWA, only one week after Australia launched an investigation. Similarly, while Britain confirmed this incitement, and raised the issue with UNRWA, "he claimed.

Eichner pointed out that, "About two weeks ago, the Israeli Institute for Research and Policy, which searches and analyzes textbooks around the world, published a report on the topic, the results of which were published for the first time, which are UNRWA study materials produced during the corona epidemic, and distributed to more of 300,000 students, including contents such as hate, incitement to violence, glorifying the perpetrators of armed operations, and wiping Israel from maps, "he claimed.

He explained, The Canadian Minister for International Development, Karina Gould, announced that senior Canadian officials are investigating how UNRWA produces textbooks that promote these concepts, noting that Canada is a major contributor to the UNRWA budget, as its contribution increased to 20 million dollars in 2020 compared to 14 million dollars in 2019.

Eichner pointed out that this is the second official investigation against UNRWA after the Australian government announced that it had opened its own investigation into the matter last week, while the British Minister for Middle East Affairs, James Calverley, confirmed that the Kingdom had raised this issue with UNRWA, in response to a question from Representative Robert Havon of Prime Minister Boris Johnson's party.

He revealed that "UNRWA removed some of these contents from its official website this week, suspended public access to its study materials that were available on the Internet, and prevented the examination of additional materials, and said that the materials will now be transferred to a secure platform."

The Director-General of the Israel Institute for Research and Policy, Marcus Schiff, claimed that “given the results of our research, all current countries that donate to UNRWA, and those considering funding for it in the future, have the right to conduct an independent review of school materials and to prevent these funds from being used to spread incendiary concepts, he claimed.
