Days of Palestine – Ramallah

Rainwater has submerged several rooms where Palestinian detainees are held in the Israeli detention center of Huwwara, south of Nablus in the occupied West Bank, according to the Detainees and Ex-Detainees Commission.

The Commission said in a statement that prisoners' belongings, including clothes, mattresses and blankets, were all flooded with rainwater due to the lack of the safety and protection requirements by the Israeli occupation authorities.

An attorney of the Commission, who was allowed to visit the 11 Palestinian detainees held in Huwwara, said the detainees felt terribly cold and were seen quivering and had pale faces due to the freezing weather and the lack of any source of heating there.

The Commission said the Huwwara detention center is now considered the worst Israeli detention facility in terms of the maltreatment of the detainees and the lack of basic health requirements.

Detainees there have already complained to the Commission about the maltreatment, lack of mattresses and sufficient food, coupled by a lack of heating and hygiene requirements.

The 11 detainees called onall international human rights organizations, on top of which the International Committee of the Red Cross, to visit them to have a close look at the inhumane and miserable imprisonment conditions they are facing.
