Jordan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates has condemned the attempt on Friday by a Jewish settler to burn the Church of Gethsemane in Occupied Jerusalem.
In a press release issued on Saturday, spokesperson for the ministry Dhaifallah Fayez said the attack was "a "heinous and condemned crime," calling on the Israeli authorities, as the occupying power, to abide by their obligations in accordance with international law to hold the perpetrators accountable and to take all the necessary measures to prevent the recurrence of such acts.
The Kingdom, based on its Hashemite custodianship over the Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem, will continue its role in protecting the holy sites, according to Fayez.
Fayez stressed the Kingdom's refusal of any Israeli practices targeting the holy sites in Jerusalem and the right to manage their affairs in accordance with international law and the status quo.
