Palestine has urged the United Nations to pressure Israel to end the trial of the former Gaza manager of World Vision charity who has been in Israeli detention for over four years without a fair trial.
Palestine's permanent observer to the United Nations Riyad Mansour called for the release of Mohammed al-Halabi and dismiss his case for the lack of evidence against him.
Mansour wrote a letter to the the UN's 9th Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and the President of the UN Security Council for this month, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, and the President of the UN General calling for Halabi's immediate release.
He included in his letter Halabi’s father urgent appeal in which he said the Israeli occupation authorities has been detaining his son since June 2016 without any evidence.
Halabi endured torture by Israeli occupation forces to pressure him for a confession of a crime he did not commit. He has also been subject to at least 124 court sessions.
Halabi received 'hero' award from the UN in recognition for his tireless efforts with children in Gaza diagnosed with cancer, noting that he is well known for his wide-ranged humanitarian work.
