Days of Palestine – Gaza
A Palestinian young man was arrested on Sunday night for attempting to cross the Gaza borders into 1948 occupied Palestine, an Israeli army spokesman said.
The Hebrew website 0404 quoted the spokesman as saying that the army soldiers captured the Palestinian youth while trying to cross the southern borders of the Gaza Strip.
It said that he was taken to a detention center for interrogation.
Israel has imposed siege on the Gaza Strip since the early of June 2007. When Israel imposed a land, sea and air blockade on Gaza, citing security concerns. Two million Palestinians in Gaza remain ‘locked in’, denied free access to the remainder of the territory and the outside world.
The blockade has undermined the living conditions in the coastal enclave and fragmented the oPt and its economic and social fabric.
The isolation of Gaza has been exacerbated by restrictions imposed by the Egyptian authorities on Rafah, its single passengers crossing.
