Days of Palestine – Gaza
A member of the Epidemiological Committee in the Gaza Strip, Professor of Epidemiology at Al-Quds University, Yahya Abed, confirmed that the COVID-19 tracking map in the Gaza Strip is "very complex."
He said: We discovered the first cases in the central governorate, and found 10 cases from Maghazi and Deir al-Balah. Then a number of cases reached the Gaza governorate, and therefore the cases are confined to three governorates in the north, central and Gazawhile no cases have been found in and the governorates of Rafah and Khan Yunis.
"Today we will examine hundreds of samples, and they include all hospital workers, in addition to patients who are in hospitals," he added.
Abed stressed that the Gaza Strip is one of the most crowded places in the world, and the authorities have taken strict measures to limit the spread of COVID-19.
Abed said: The COVID testing kits will last for about a month, according to the Director of the World Health Organization. Four new diagnostic equipment for COVID 19 arrived recently, and we have taken a greenlight to expand the testing as much as possible in the Strip.
"Ten new ventilators devices have recently arrived, but Gaza Strip desperately needs more, in addition to medicine," he added.
Abed stressed that social distancing is our only way to limit the spread of the virus as there is no vaccination or direct treatment for coronavirus.
