Scores of Jewish settlers on Wednesday morning broke into al-Aqsa Mosque under tight police guard despite the closure announced the previous day due to the coronavirus outbreak.
Local sources said that dozens of extremist settlers, escorted by police offiers, forced their way into al-Aqsa Mosque and performed Talmudic rituals near al-Buraq Wall.
Jerusalem's Department of Islamic Awqaf and Aqsa Mosque's Affairs decided this week to close al-Aqsa Mosque in Occupied Jerusalem to Muslim worshipers until further notice as the coronavirus continues to spread in the Palestinian territories.
The Palestinians believe that the Israeli authorities are taking advantage of the health crisis hitting the region to entrench their control over Jerusalem.
