The Israeli occupation police on Thursday evening arrested one of the Aqsa Mosque’s guards and banished an employee from the holy site for two weeks.
In a statement, the Islamic Awqaf Authority said that Aqsa guards prevented Israeli police officers from entering the Mosque’s Bab al-Rahma prayer area, which led to the arrest of one guard called Sa’ed as-Salayma.
The Israeli police also handed another guard called Issa Barakat a summons for interrogation at al-Qishla police station in western Jerusalem.
According to the Awqaf Authority, the Shin Bet handed Emad Abedeen, who works as a fireman at the Aqsa Mosque, a written decision ordering him to stay away from the Mosque for 15 days and to pay 5,000 shekels for his immediate release.
Abedeen had been arrested two days ago after he refused to sign a police decision banishing him from the Aqsa Mosque for one month.
The Shin Bet also filed a request with an Israeli court asking for extending the detention of Aqsa guard Mohamed Tina for three days, claiming that he assaulted an Israeli policeman.
