US approves Israeli new settlement in West Bank

Days of Palestine -

Senior American official passed White House’s approval to Israeli decision to build new illegal settlement in occupied West Bank to Israel newspaper on Thursday.

According to the Israeli newspaper Times of Israel, the American official, wanted to be unnamed, said that the American President Donald Trump “understands” the Israeli cabinet’s decision to build a new settlement in the occupied West Bank.

The American official justified building the new illegal Jewish only settlement in the occupied Palestinian territory, which the Palestinians want to be part of their future state, because the Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu had promised the Jewish settlers to build them this settlement.

“With regards to the new settlement for Amona residents, we would note that the Israeli prime minister made a commitment to the Amona settlers prior to President Trump laying out his expectations,” the American official said.

Noting that Netanyahu had ignored Trump’s request to hold off on settlement building in the occupied West Bank, he said: “He [Netanyahu] has consistently indicated that he intended to move forward with this plan [to build the settlement for Amona evacuees].”

The official also reiterated that Trump does not see the illegal Israeli Jewish settlement as an obstacle to the peace process.

“The [US] administration has made clear: the existence of settlements is not in itself an impediment to peace,” the official said.
