Sheikh Raed Salah, well-known as Sheikh Al-Aqsa, was released on Tuesday morning form Israeli jails after spending 9-month prison sentence.
Hundreds of Palestinian in Israel, referred to as Israeli Arabs, in the town of Um al-Fahm joyously welcomed the release and return of Sheikh Raed Salah, head of the Islamic Movement in Israel.
Sheikh Salah spent his imprisonment in the Israeli Ramon Prison and is expected to have been released from there. However, the Israeli Prison Service only said he was released, while the Arabs who waited for him at the entrance of the prison did not found him.
“I got on the bus and went to the Hassan Bek in Yafa (Jaffa). People there welcomed me, and after staying there for an hour, I went to Um al-Fahm,” Sheikh Salah said.
After the were informed he was released, relatives and supporters of the Sheikh searched for him until he appeared in Yafa.

One of the people, who waited for him, said: “We are all waiting for Sheikh Al-Aqsa. We are proud of him, he is a hero. I am sad that they have tried to attribute things to him which are not true, and thank God we all know that this is all being done to persecute and humiliate him.”
He added: “Thank God that the Sheikh is strong and will stay strong, and all of the arrests in the world will not deter him.”
Former Mayor of Um al-Fahm Sheikh Abdel Rahman said: “Everyone in Um al-Fahm is happy that Sheikh Raed Salah was released. We are holding a festival for him here on Friday, and thousands are expected to attend.

One day before Sheikh Salah’s release, the Israeli Interior Minister Aryeh Deri singed a six-month travel ban on him, claiming he poses “danger” on Israel. However, the ban has been in place since 2015.
