Due to her anti-occupation stances, Israeli occupation government decided to boycott visit of Swedish Foreign Minister Margot Wallström.

Wallström is planning to visit the occupied Palestinian territories and Israel on Thursday to meet Palestinian and Israeli officials and discuss several issues.

She asked to meet Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and other senior Israeli officials during her visit, but an official Israeli response to her request noted that Israeli officials could fit her into their schedules.

The Swedish foreign minister has been outspoken critic to Israeli occupational policies. She described the Israeli indiscriminative killing of Palestinian civilians in Gaza as “extrajudicial execution.”

Wallström drew a connection between the Israeli terror against the Palestinian civilians and the claimed Islamic terror in Europe.

About the Israeli rejection to meet Wallström, the Israeli media reiterated the Israeli response that Israeli officials could not fit her into their schedule was merely an excuse.

The Israeli news website Ynet News reported Israeli officials saying that Wallström is a persona non grata in Israel.

Ynet News also said that this is not the first time Wallström receives a cold shoulder from the Israeli government, noting she cancelled an official visit in January 2015 after Israeli officials refused to meet with her then as well.

It is worth mentioning that some in the Israeli foreign ministry suggested in the past to close the Israeli Embassy in Stockholm since it was a “lost cause.”
