Israeli occupation authorities confirmed on Monday they had begun massive Jewish settlement expansion project in West Bank city of Al-Khalil.
The Coordinator of Israeli Government Activities in the Palestinian Territories in the West Bank, confirmed that permission “to plan infrastructures” has been granted.
Sources said that the site in question is next to the illegal Israeli Jewish settlement of Beit Romano, one of the settlers’ strongholds inside the largest Palestinian city in the occupied West Bank.
About 1,000 Israeli Jewish settlers live in heavily fortified enclaves in the Palestinian city. More than 10,000 Israeli soldiers are recruited to protect them. This gives them the power to harass the Palestinians, damage their properties and prevent them from using certain roads.

Yishai Fleisher, a spokesman for the Jewish settlers in Al-Khalil, welcomed the settlement project, saying it “would be good news for the Jewish community here.”
In response to the project, the Palestinian Authority foreign ministry issued accused the Israeli occupation of trying to make Al-Khalil “more Jewish.”
Meanwhile, it vowed it would turn to the Israeli Supreme Court, United Nations and international courts to stop the plan.
“We stress the need for immediate action to prevent the implementation of this new settlement plan,” the ministry said.
