DaysofPal- The Civil Defense authority in the Gaza Strip has called on the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) and international humanitarian organizations to urgently intervene and provide support to repair disabled emergency vehicles at the Al-Rimal Civil Defense Center.
In a statement issued Wednesday, officials said the vehicles have been out of service for twelve consecutive days, severely impacting emergency response capabilities in western areas of Gaza City.
Nizar Al-Bardini, director of the Al-Rimal Civil Defense Center, confirmed that three essential operational vehicles, including a fire engine, a rescue vehicle, and an ambulance, remain completely nonfunctional.
He explained that repairs have been delayed due to the high cost of maintenance and a critical shortage of spare parts and lubricants in local markets under current conditions.
Al-Bardini warned that the continued breakdown of these vehicles is depriving thousands of residents and displaced people in western Gaza City of essential humanitarian services.
He noted that the lack of functioning equipment is causing unavoidable delays in rescue operations, firefighting efforts, and emergency medical response.
He added that the situation is particularly dangerous as field risks and humanitarian needs continue to rise at an unprecedented level.
The Civil Defense authority emphasized that restoring these vehicles to service is crucial to ensuring the ability of emergency teams to respond effectively and save lives.
Officials urged international organizations to assume their responsibilities and act immediately to provide the necessary resources and technical support.
The appeal highlights the broader strain on emergency services in Gaza, where ongoing challenges, including resource shortages and infrastructure damage, continue to hinder life-saving operations.
