Sources said that Jerusalem District Planning and Building Committee removed all obstacles ahead of building the 900 new settlement units in the illegal Jewish-only settlement of Ramat Shlomo.

Earlier this week, the same department took a decision to build 1,500 new settlement units in the same illegal settlement.

According to the sources, the new extremist Israeli committee is to approve the decision on its meeting scheduled on Wednesday.

The day before he was re-elected, Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu vowed that if re-elected, he would build thousands of settler homes in Palestinian East Jerusalem to prevent future concessions to the Palestinians.

Peace Now, an Israeli NGO that campaigns against Israeli settlement activities, said between March 31, 2009 and January, 2015, the two previous governments led by Netanyahu promoted at least 106 construction plans for 13,077 different settlement units in 57 settlements.

International law considers the West Bank and East Jerusalem occupied territories captured by the Israeli occupation in 1967, deeming all construction of Israeli Jewish settlements on the land illegal.
