Days of Palestine, Jerusalem –Hundreds of Israeli police stormed Al-Aqsa Mosque on Monday, clashed with worshipers and wounded dozens of them.
Since the early morning, the Israeli police imposed a strict siege around the Mosque compound and prevented men under 60 years and all women from entering into it.
Witnesses told days of Palestine that 58 extremist Israeli settlers desecrated the Mosque under the protection of the Israeli police. This led to clashes as the Palestinian worshipers attempted to prevent the desecration.
Israeli forces fired stun grenades, tear gas canisters and rubber-coated steel bullets at Palestinians in the holy site during the clashes.
Police had deployed in heavy numbers to secure the visits of Jewish settlers to the third holiest place on earth for about 2billion Muslims for the holiday of Sukkot. A group of Israelis also toured the site led by right-wing MK Moshe Feiglin.
During the clashes, a fire broke out on carpets near the eastern gate of the Mosque, Al-Aqsa guards said, as youths and police faced off
Israeli forces assaulted Aqsa mosque guards during the raids and detained Hajj Nihad Zghayr and an unidentified Palestinian teen.
