Days of Palestine, Gaza Strip –A number of Palestinian families from the Gaza Strip have reported they were informed by Egyptian officials that their relatives sunk off Egyptian coasts.
The families said they received telephone calls from Egyptian officials telling them that their relatives sunk in the Mediterranean in front of Alexandria.
According to the Egyptian officials, the families said, the Palestinians were leaving the Gaza Strip heading to Italy.
Based on information given by survivals, 160 Palestinians, including women and children were on board of the boat.
The families said that the Egyptian marine saved a considerable number of them, noting that the Egyptian officials asked close relatives to travel to Egypt to get their family members. They did not clarify who is alive and who is dead.
Egyptian sources said that search operations are still continuous, but chances to find more survivals are very weak.
It has been recently said that hundreds of Palestinian citizens, fleeing the Israeli massacres carried out in Gaza, were smuggled through tunnels into Egypt and were transferred to Italy through the sea.
