Days of Palestine, Gaza Strip –Deputy Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh said on Saturday that his movement “will never bargain” its weapons with food and reconstruction of the Strip.
In a meeting with journalists held in Gaza City, Haniyeh said: “Israeli occupation is trying to blackmail us by connecting the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip with various things, such as the weapons of Hamas or impairing its capabilities.”
He added: “I would like to make something clear: the weapons of the resistance cannot be tied to the reconstruction of Gaza or to any other issue to do with Gaza.”
The Israeli occupation waged a 51-day savage war on the Gaza Strip started on July 7 and ended on August 26 with an open-ended ceasefire deal that included lifting the eight-year old Israeli siege on Gaza and opening of the crossings to pass construction materials and other goods.
Haniyeh said Hamas military capabilities were legitimate and would remain so until Palestine was freed.
International law guarantees for the occupied nation the right to fight the occupier using all means on condition of avoiding civilians. Israeli occupation killed 2,160 Gazans during the war, more than 75 percent of them, UN and other human rights organisations said, were civilians.
“Reconstruction is an obligation placed upon us, and we must rebuild Gaza after the destruction sown by Israel,” he said. “But the weapons of the resistance and its capabilities are a red line that cannot be crossed, and which no one can touch.”
It is worth mentioning that the Israeli occupation demands freeing Gaza from primitive and homemade rockets manufactured by fighters, while the occupation owns the most high-tech weapons with a nuclear reactor and around 300 long-range rockets with nuclear warheads.
