Days of Palestine, Milano –Hundreds of mourners has packed the cathedral of this hilltop Tuscan town to remember AP video journalist Simone Camilli as a committed storyteller.
Camilli was killed in Gaza while covering dismantling Israeli leftover missiles by Palestinian police experts. Several experts and another Palestinian journalist were also killed in the same incident last week.
Video images made by Camilli are projected in the cathedral complex in Pitigliano, and mourners streaming to the funeral Mass were visibly moved as they pause to watch.
AP chief executive Gary Pruitt, speaking outside the cathedral, lauds Camilli’s commitment “to tell the human side of the story in a war” during nearly a decade with AP.
Palestinian journalists, worked with Camilli, described him as a “human” when he was telling the stories about the Palestinian casualties of the ongoing Israeli war on Gaza.
“He was committed to humanity message through his coverage to the war,” colleague in the Gaza office said. “He saved no efforts to communicate a real image about the Israeli atrocities against the Palestinian civilians.”
