Days of Palestine, Cairo –Egyptian foreign ministry announced Wednesday midnight extension of truce between Palestinians and Israeli occupation for five days.
Egyptian foreign ministry said that both the Palestinians and the Israeli occupation accepted the expansion of the truce for extra 120 hours.
In a statement, the ministry said that the expansion was accepted “to give room to continue indirect negotiations in Cairo aiming at reaching a comprehensive and permanent peace.”
Head of the Palestinian delegation in Cairo Azzam al-Ahmad confirmed the report, and said that despite contradictory reports regarding the fate of the talks, the sides decided to give talks more time in order to reach an end to the aggressions
“We have agreed on a cease-fire for five days,” said al-Ahmed, noting that there had been “significant progress” but that disagreements remained over the wording regarding security arrangements, reconstruction efforts for the Gaza Strip and the permissible fishing area.
Senior Hamas leader and member of the Palestinian envoy in Cairo Izzat al-Reshiq wrote on Wednesday on Twitter saying: “The ceasefire has been extended in order to continue the discussions.”
Early on Wednesday, Israeli media reported agreement of the Israeli ministerial council on 72-hour expansion for the truce should the Palestinians accepted it.
