The families of the prisoners express their anger at “Amira” movie

Palestinian activists have launched an online campaign calling for the boycott of a film titled Amira, selected as the Jordanian entry for the Best International Feature Film at the 94th Academy Awards for mocking Palestinian prisoners held in Israeli jails.

Using the hashtag #Pull_Out_Amira and Palestinian and pro-Palestine advocates have called on supporters to boycott the film, arguing that it whitewashes Israeli crimes.

Amira, Arabic for princess, follows the life of a 17-year-old Palestinian, who was conceived with the smuggled sperm of her father who is serving a life sentence in an Israeli jail.

After her father fails to conceive another child, it is discovered that he is infertile and that Amira’s biological father is actually an Israeli officer.

Critics have argued that this feeds into Israel’s narrative and discounts the suffering of Palestinians and their struggles.

The families of the prisoners expressed their anger at the content of the film, and they were among the participants in this campaign.

Sana Daqqa, the wife of the Palestinian prisoner in the Israeli occupation prisons, Walid Daqqa, who gave birth to a daughter through the “smuggled sperm,” expressed her anger at the content of the film, saying: “The smile of my daughter, “Milad,” “the liberated sperm,” is more valuable than those in charge of “Amira” movie, and the occupation state.”.

“Being the second prisoner’s wife who gave birth through “smuggled sperm” and I am very proud of this experience, I repeated it 3 times and it didn’t work, I am ready to repeat it.”
She added, “I am proud of this challenge, i saw the horror that I put into Nafha Desert Prison when I visited my husband, while I was carrying my son Majd. (Amira) movie won’t break us, “Majd” will remain held high” Another prisoner’s wife said.

A relative of the Palestinian prisoner Fahmy Mashahra also wrote :”Aziza is the daughter of the prisoner Fahmy Mashhara, who is sentenced to 20 life imprisonment! (1980 years ) and has been imprisoned for more than 19 years”.
“Today, Aziza is 7 years old, and she has a brother “Eid”, who was also given birth through smuggled sperm. Rachat voiture HS : une reprise au prix fort Vendre sa voiture. It was a very great feeling filled with pride for this achievement and victory, to carry her in the courtyards of Al-Aqsa Mosque despite the Israeli occupation”. he added.

Palestinian journalist Rasha Farhat wrote: “In spite of everyone who wants to distort the prisoners issue, this is my picture with the sons of the prisoner, Nahed Hamid; they were born through smuggled sperm.”

“This is our cause alone, get your hands which contaminated with normalization away from us.”
