Days of Palestine – Jerusalem
According to Saleh Diab, an activist, the Israeli occupation authorities took 4700 square meters of Palestinian-owned property in the East Jerusalem district of Sheikh Jarrah in support of the illegally Israeli municipality’s intention to build a park.
He said that the Israeli occupation High Court ordered the acquisition of property held by four families: Obeidat, Odeh, Jarallah, and Mansour, in order to transform it into a public park controlled by the occupation municipality of West Jerusalem.
He went on to say that the municipality tried to take the land in 2016 but was failed.
In a phone conversation with the official WAFA news agency, one of the owners, Kamal Obeidat, confirmed that the move to grab the property near a hotel intends to increase the space available for building from 18,000 to 36,000 square meters in favor of the occupation municipality.
He explained that the area was utilized as a parking lot for buses and other vehicles in preparation for converting it into a project for the benefit of Palestinians in East Jerusalem, but that the occupation municipality now wants to take it over so that it may be used for its illegal colonies.
