Palestinian hunger striker: Our lives in danger

Days of Palestine – Jerusalem

Palestinian prisoner Alaa Al-Araj raised on Friday alarm bells over his critical health situation and the health condition of his colleagues who have been on hunger strike in the Israeli prisons for long weeks.

Al-Araj, who has been on hunger strike for 83 days, expressed disappointment over the weak popular and official support for their protest steps.

For her part, Al-Araj’s wife, Asmaa Quzmar, warned of her husband’s serious health deterioration, especially his nervous system.

He started suffering tonic-clonic seizures in the hands and feet, vision problems, and severe pains all over his body, she said.

Despite his health problems, she added, he is still in high spirits.

Asmaa called on national and international rights institutions to intervene immediately to save her husband’s life before it is too late.

Seven Palestinian prisoners continue their hunger strike launched several weeks ago in protest at their unfair administrative detention without charge or trial.

The oldest detainee on hunger strike is Kayed Fasfous, who has been on hunger strike for 107 days, followed by Miqdad Qawasmeh (100 days), Alaa Aaraj (82 days), Hesham Abu Hawwash (73 days), Shadi Abu-Akr (66 days), Ayyad Hureimi (37days), and Louay Al-Ashqar (19 days).
