Palestinian prisoner: I will continue my strike until I get my freedom

The young prisoner Meqdad Al Qawasmeh, who has been on hunger strike for 77 days, said he would continue until getting his freedom despite the gravity of my health situation.

On his patient bed in Kaplan hospital in Haifa, Qawasmeh stressed his willingness to sacrifice until he returns to his family.

He was not waiting for a decision from the Israeli occupation to freeze his administrative detention but for a decision to end his unjust imprisonment.

He said: “I insist on hunger strike to end my detention; I will not eat or drink any food, and I may have to go on a water strike.”

“Doctors told me I am at a stage of danger, and my heart may stop at any moment, but I want to go back to my family and friends and put an end to this unjust decision against me,” he said.

The family of the prisoner Al-Qawasmeh was able to visit him on Wednesday evening after the decision to freeze his administrative detention and transfer him to the hospital due to the seriousness of his health condition.

The family waited long hours in front of Kaplan hospital until they were allowed to visit their son.

The Department of Occupation Prisons recently transferred Al-Qawasmeh from Al-Ramlah Prison to Kaplan Hospital following a severe deterioration of his health.

Qawasmeh, 24, from Hebron, was re-arrested in January this year.

He was sentenced to six months of administrative detention. When it was nearly finished, the occupation intelligence renewed his administrative detention, which prompted him to go on an open-ended hunger strike to demand freedom.
