Days of Palestine – Jerusalem
Israeli occupation forces shot dead today morning, Thursday, two Palestinians in Jerusalem and Jenin, local sources confirmed.
Sources said that a Palestinian young woman was cold-bloodedly shot dead by the Israeli occupation police on allegations of her attempt to stab an officer.
According to eyewitnesses, police officers opened fire at a woman near the Silsila Gate of the Aqsa Mosque and fatally wounded her.
The woman was identified as 30-year-old Israa Khuzaimiya from the West Bank town of Qabatiya in Jenin.
Soon later, the police closed all the Aqsa Mosque’s gates and the entrances leading to it and intensified their presence in the Old City streets.
The police also reopened the Mosque’s Huta Gate after closing it, forced the Muslim worshipers inside to leave, and allowed Jewish settlers to enter the holy site in groups.
The source added that the Israeli police opened intensive fire at the woman purportedly for attempting to carry a stabbing attack near Bab al-Silsila, one of the gates leading to Al-Aqsa, killing her.
The circumstances surrounding the alleged stabbing attempt remain unclear and largely based on the Israeli version of events.
Israeli has been criticized for its reflexive use of lethal force and “extrajudicial killings” when Palestinian alleged attackers no longer pose an immediate threat. The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) said that circumstances surrounding such killings over the past months remain disputed.
Video footage for similar alleged attacks appears to disapprove Israeli military claims, showing alleged Palestinian attackers did not even attempt to carry out any attacks. Some footage showed Israeli forces manipulating the crime scene following such killings.
Meanwhile, a Palestinian young man was killed and two others sustained injuries when the Israeli occupation forces stormed Burqin town, west of Jenin in the West Bank.
Local sources said that Israeli soldiers encircled the house of prisoner Mahmoud al-Zar’eini in the town and ordered the persons inside to surrender before storming it.
According to the same sources, soldiers disguised as civilians opened fire at a young man identified as Alaa Ziyoud, an Islamic Jihad member from the nearby town of Silat al-Harithiya, at point-blank range and killed him immediately during armed clashes with him.
Two other citizens were also wounded in the raid on the house and taken to a local hospital for medical assistance.
The Hebrew media claimed that other Palestinians were arrested during the Israeli operation.
Zar’eini is a member of the Hamas Movement and his house was part of the events that took place a few days ago in Burqin when Israeli forces encircled the place and kidnaped the house’s owner. Two Palestinians were killed and two Israel soldiers were seriously wounded during those events.
For long years, the Israeli military and security forces have been given the green light to use deadly force solely against the Palestinians who are accused or suspected of attacking or intending to attack Jewish settlers or soldiers, even when they do not pose an immediate threat or try to defend themselves.
