The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has strongly denounced the killing of two Palestinian youths by Israeli occupation forces in separate incidents in the occupied West Bank on Friday.
Fawzi Hani Makhalfa, 18, from Sebastia town northwest of Nablus, was shot dead by Israeli occupation forces while driving a car with his friend, Mohammad Mkhaimer, who was wounded and detained. The Israeli army claimed that the car accelerated towards the Israeli soldiers in an attempted attack, but the OIC called it a “heinous crime of execution” and said that the soldiers fired more than 40 bullets at the vehicle.
The OIC said in a statement that it urged the international community to intervene and hold the Israeli occupation accountable for its crimes. It also reiterated its support for the Palestinian cause and their right to self-determination and sovereignty over their land. It also called for an end to the Israeli occupation and settlement expansion, which it said were the main sources of tension and violence in the region.
Thousands of mourners attended the funeral processions of Makhalfa and Bayed on Saturday, amid clashes with Israeli occupation forces in several areas of the West Bank. The Palestine Red Crescent Society reported dozens of injuries among the Palestinians due to Israeli gunfire, tear gas and rubber-coated metal bullets.
The OIC, which represents 57 Muslim countries, is one of the largest intergovernmental organizations in the world. It has been vocal in its support for the Palestinian people and their rights.
