The Palestinian Center for Prisoners’ Studies confirmed that the number of Palestinian female prisoners in Israeli prisons has increased to 34.
The Israeli occupation holds these female prisoners in harsh and inhumane conditions.
The center explained that the policy of arresting Palestinian women dates back to the beginning of the Israeli occupation of Palestine and has escalated during the Al-Aqsa Intifada under various pretexts. Since 1967, more than 17,000 cases of arrests have been recorded.
Riad Al-Ashqar, the head of the Palestinian Center for Prisoners’ Studies, accused the occupation of continuing to deprive the female prisoners of their rights in an attempt to undermine their resilience.
The female prisoners face various forms of suppression and violations, including raids aimed at disrupting their privacy by installing surveillance cameras in the courtyard and corridors.
The medical negligence and procrastination in conducting medical examinations and providing appropriate medication for the sick and injured female prisoners persist as well.
The Center urged international organizations concerned with women’s issues to intervene and protect Palestinian women from the crimes of the occupation, especially arbitrary arrests without justification, harsh detention conditions, and relentless torture and harassment in Israeli prisons.
