The Palestinian Prisoners and Ex-Prisoners Affairs Commission said Monday 18 April 2022 that the number of Palestinians held in administrative detention in Israel without charge or trial has increased to 650.
The commission said that Israel intensified its administrative detention orders in March and April, particularly in occupied East Jerusalem, raising the number in a short period to 650.
The Palestinian administrative prisoners often resort to hunger strikes to secure their release from prison, the latest is Khalil Awawdeh, from the Hebron district, who has been on hunger strike for 46 consecutive days demanding an end to his administrative detention, said the commission.
Israel’s policy of administrative detention allows the detention of Palestinians without charge or trial for renewable intervals based on undisclosed evidence that even a detainee’s lawyer is barred from viewing.
