Israel’s leftist organization Peace Now warned that the Netanyahu-Smotrich agreement would lead to the Israeli occupation’s legalization of dozens of unauthorized outposts built in violation of “Israeli law” and on lands seized by Israeli colonial settlers.
The organization said that the agreement would increase significantly Israeli settlement construction and outpost expansion which would strengthen the Israeli colonial settlers’ control over the region.
On the other hand, the agreement will negatively impact the Palestinians by increasing house demolitions and strict enforcement against them to reduce their control over the region.
The organization also remarked that the minister of “Religious Zionism” at the Israeli occupation ministry would play a central role related to managing Palestinians’ and Israeli settlers’ lives in the occupied West Bank.
The minister will also have the authority to name the heads of the Office for the Coordination of Government Activities in the occupied Palestinian Territories, the Civil Administration, and the bodies responsible for the civil policy of the Israeli government in the occuiped West Bank.
The agreement shows that the minister will also control the planning committee, which is responsible for approving new settler construction in the occuiped West Bank.
The agreement includes that the Government Coordinator in the Palestinian Territories will report directly to an ultranationalist right-wing politician within the Israeli occupation ministry.
Giving a minister in the Israeli occupation Ministry full authority over the Civil Administration and the Government Coordinator in the occuiped Palestinian Territories could refer to a major annexation step in the occupied West Bank.
