DaysofPal- In a heartfelt move to support the most vulnerable victims of the ongoing crisis in Gaza, Morocco has launched a pioneering humanitarian initiative aimed at sponsoring amputee and orphaned Palestinian children.
The announcement was made today, Saturday, at the headquarters of the Al-Quds Al-Sharif Agency in Rabat, in the presence of representatives from the Arab diplomatic corps, the director of the Hassan II Institute for Agriculture and Veterinary, and the president of the Moroccan Association for Reconstruction in Palestine.
A Lifeline for 800 Vulnerable Children
The initiative seeks to provide vital support to 300 amputee children out of 800 registered on the lists of the Palestinian Ministry of Health, as well as 500 orphaned children. This effort is part of the “Jerusalem Orphan” project, which has been sponsored by the Al-Quds Al-Sharif Agency since 2008. The program also includes the establishment of a psychological clinic staffed by Moroccan and Palestinian volunteer specialists to address the mental health needs of these children.
Dr. Al-Wakla, spokesperson for the initiative, stated in a press release: “This initiative aims to restore hope and dignity to some of the most vulnerable children in Gaza. By addressing their physical, emotional, and psychological needs, we strive to help them rebuild their lives despite the challenges they face.”
Expanding Support Beyond Borders
The initiative builds on Morocco’s longstanding commitment to supporting Palestinians, particularly in Jerusalem and Gaza. Over the past year, under the directives of King Mohammed VI, the Al-Quds Al-Sharif Agency has played a pivotal role in humanitarian campaigns to aid Palestinians in Jerusalem. Additionally, Morocco has invested in strengthening Gaza’s educational infrastructure through partnerships with institutions like Al-Azhar University and the King Hassan II College for Agricultural and Environmental Sciences in Gaza.
Key contributions include financing cloud servers to safeguard administrative and educational data, developing distance learning platforms, and providing scholarships to students. Notably, eight students from Gaza are currently completing their final year at the Hassan II Institute for Agriculture and Veterinary in Rabat, specializing in veterinary medicine and animal production.
A Symbol of Solidarity
This latest initiative underscores Morocco’s unwavering solidarity with the Palestinian people, particularly during times of acute suffering. By focusing on children, who represent the future of Palestine, the program not only addresses immediate humanitarian needs but also invests in long-term recovery and resilience.
The inclusion of psychological support reflects a holistic approach to healing, recognizing that the trauma of war extends beyond physical injuries. Volunteer specialists from both Morocco and Palestine will work collaboratively to ensure that children receive the care and attention they deserve.
A Call for Global Action
While Morocco’s efforts have been widely praised, they also serve as a reminder of the urgent need for broader international action to alleviate the suffering of Palestinians in Gaza. With thousands of children maimed or orphaned by conflict, the global community must step up its response to ensure no child is left behind.
As this initiative takes root, it stands as a beacon of hope for hundreds of children in Gaza, offering them a chance to heal, learn, and dream of a brighter future. Morocco’s leadership in this endeavor reinforces the importance of cross-border solidarity and compassion in addressing humanity’s greatest crises.
