The Palestine Red Crescent (PRCS) recovered Thursday the bodies of two of its paramedics who were killed by the Israeli army last night in Rafah’s Tal as-Sultan area, which is supposed to be a “safe zone”.
According to PRCS, the paramedics – Haitham Tubasi and Suhail Hassouna – were killed after Israeli forces targeted and bombed their ambulance while on duty in Rafah.
“The Israeli occupation forces deliberately bombed the ambulance vehicle despite it bearing the internationally protected Red Crescent emblem,” PRCS said in a post on X.
The Palestinian health ministry called the attack a “heinous crime” which confirms Israeli military’s “intention to annihilate” Gaza’s health system.
Haitham al-Hams, Deputy Director of Emergency Services in Rafah, says rescue and ambulance teams are facing immense difficulties reaching the casualties in the city due to the deliberate Israeli attacks targeting medical personnel.
Since October 7, the organization said 19 PRCS medics have been killed in Gaza with 130 ambulances being attacked and destroyed.
Israeli army killed at least 66 Palestinians in Rafah ‘safe zones’. In addition, 75 people were also killed in past 24 hours as death toll climbs to 36,171 since 7 October.
