Leaked Docs Reveal Meta’s Deep Compliance with Israeli Censorship Push

Amnesty: Meta’s New Content Policies Fuel Mass Violence, Genocide

DayofPal– A sweeping digital censorship campaign led by Israel has found a powerful partner in Meta, the parent company of Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp.

Internal documents obtained by Drop Site News reveal that since October 7, 2023, Meta has complied with 94% of content takedown requests submitted by the Israeli government, an unprecedented rate of enforcement that experts are calling one of the most expansive digital censorship operations in history.

The documents expose a system that fast-tracks Israeli takedown requests, most labeled under “terrorism” or “violence and incitement”, with Meta’s algorithms and moderators swiftly removing posts, often in seconds and without human review.

Over 90,000 pieces of content have erased from the platform since the crackdown began, largely silencing voices in Arab and Muslim-majority countries like Palestine, Egypt, and Jordan.

Only 1.3% of Israel’s flagged content involved Israeli users, raising serious concerns about the lopsided targeting of Palestinian and pro-Palestinian narratives.

According to insiders, Meta’s moderation systems didn’t just follow Israeli requests, they learned from them. Takedown decisions were fed into Meta’s artificial intelligence, effectively training the platform to automatically flag and suppress similar content in the future.

Whistleblowers described a chilling efficiency: posts mentioned in Israeli reports were frequently removed within moments of submission, and often without Meta staff ever seeing the full context.

Human Rights Watch reviewed 1,050 posts removed or suppressed since the beginning of the war. All but one supported Palestine.

Meta’s enforcement is overseen by its Integrity Organization, led by Guy Rosen, a former Israeli military officer. Public policy for Israel at Meta is directed by Jordana Cutler, a former advisor to the Israeli government.

Leaked internal communications show Cutler directly intervening in moderation decisions, at times pushing for the removal of content that mentioned historic Palestinian figures like writer Ghassan Kanafani.

Insiders say these figures held significant sway over how Meta responded to takedown requests, blurring the line between national interests and platform neutrality.

Experts warn the implications of this alliance go beyond individual posts. “This is industrial-scale censorship,” said one digital rights analyst. “What we’re seeing is a social media giant actively shaping its global content moderation systems around the demands of one government—at the cost of millions of silenced voices.”

Despite public pressure and internal concerns, Meta has shown no signs of changing course. Employees familiar with the moderation protocols say the company has “actively enabled” Israel’s content suppression strategy, prioritizing speed and compliance over fairness or transparency.
