Days of Palestine – Kuwait
Kuwaiti player Bader Al-Hajri withdrew Tuesday from the competitions of the Sunway International Chess Championship held in Spain; Refusing to face an Israeli player.
Al-Hajri is one of Kuwait’s chess champions, and has participated in several local and international tournaments; Where he won first place in the “San Sebastian” championship in Spain in 2015, despite the participation of veteran players from different countries of the world.
Prior to Al-Hajri’s withdrawal, Kuwaiti national team player Muhammad Al-Fadhli (19 years old) refused last April to face an Israeli player in the group stage of the World Fencing Championships, which was held in Dubai, UAE.
Kuwaiti sports participation in international tournaments is witnessing withdrawals in front of the Israeli players, “in support of the Palestinian cause and the legitimate rights of its people, and a rejection of normalization,” according to observers and tweeters.
According to Kuwaiti law; “Israel is a hostile state, and natural and legal persons are prohibited from entering into agreements or deals with bodies or persons residing in it, or belonging to it by their nationality, or working for it or for its benefit.”
