Israel’s planned wall with Jordan won’t hide its crimes in Palestine, Hamas warns

DaysofPal- The Hamas Movement said that Israel’s recently announced plan to build a high-tech security wall along the eastern border with Jordan will not shield the Israeli occupation from the consequences of its ongoing aggression against the Palestinian people.

In a statement issued Sunday, Hamas stressed that “Israel’s settlement expansion plans will only strengthen the Palestinian people’s determination to pursue resistance as an effective path to liberate Palestine.”

Hamas criticized the Israeli regime’s continued violations against Palestinians, their land, and their holy sites, asserting that the construction of additional barriers will not suppress the people’s desire for freedom.

“Israel’s previous security wall projects have failed to suppress the Palestinian people’s resistance and quell their unyielding anger, which will persist until the occupation is removed and their historical rights are reclaimed,” the Movement said.

Hamas also called on Arab and Islamic nations to unite in confronting what it described as “colonial projects” and settlement expansion efforts across the region.

The Israeli security cabinet approved a plan by War Minister Israel Katz to construct a multi-layered security barrier along the eastern Palestinian border with Jordan. The wall aims to reinforce Israeli presence in the Jordan Valley, a strategic area that Israel has long considered critical to its security.

The project, which will begin in June, involves the construction of a 425-kilometer high-tech defense system stretching from the occupied Syrian Golan Heights in the north to Eilat in the far south. Estimated at $1.4 billion, the barrier will include a combination of physical infrastructure, advanced surveillance sensors, mobile military units, and command centers, according to Israeli officials. The project is expected to take three years to complete.

This announcement follows earlier steps taken by the Israeli Defense Ministry, which began preliminary work on the barrier in November. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has repeatedly endorsed the idea, referring to it as part of a broader strategy to secure the country’s borders.

In 2023, Netanyahu ordered the construction of a fence along the entire border to prevent infiltration, noting that such plans have been in motion since 2012, when he instructed army and ministry officials to begin planning. A year later, in 2015, Israel began building a fence with embedded sensors, and in 2016, Netanyahu declared his intention to “surround the entire State of Israel with a fence.”

The total length of the border between Jordan, Israel, and the West Bank spans approximately 335 kilometers, with 97 kilometers bordering the West Bank and 238 kilometers bordering Israel.

Jordan and Israel currently share three official border crossings: Sheikh Hussein (Jordan River), King Hussein Bridge (Allenby), and Wadi Araba (Yitzhak Rabin).
