DaysofPal- Amnesty International has accused Israel of committing genocide against Palestinians in Gaza, detailing a campaign of widespread violence and destruction that amounts to an attempt to annihilate the Palestinian population.

In the comprehensive investigation, released on December 5, 2024, the global human rights organization details the devastating impact of Israel’s military operations, which have led to widespread civilian casualties, mass displacement, and the destruction of vital infrastructure in Gaza.

According to the report, Israel’s military operations in Gaza, which escalated in October 2023, have resulted in the deaths of over 30,000 Palestinians, most of them civilians. Amnesty’s findings are based on extensive field research, including survivor testimonies, satellite imagery, and interviews with humanitarian workers.

The report concludes that Israel’s actions meet the criteria for genocide under international law, citing “acts committed with intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnical, racial, or religious group.”

“The scale of destruction and human suffering in Gaza is staggering, and it is no accident,” said Agnes Callamard, Secretary General of Amnesty International.

“Israel’s actions are not limited to military operations; they are part of a deliberate strategy to erase Palestinian communities from Gaza. These attacks are not just war crimes, they amount to genocide.”

The report details the Israeli military’s indiscriminate bombing campaigns, which Amnesty says have targeted civilian infrastructure, including schools, hospitals, and residential buildings, often in densely populated areas.

Amnesty also highlights the mass displacement of Palestinians, with over 2 million people forced to flee their homes, many of them seeking refuge in areas already under heavy bombardment.

“The destruction of entire neighborhoods and the forced displacement of families is a clear attempt to terrorize and displace the civilian population of Gaza,” Callamard added.

“This is not incidental damage; it is part of a deliberate effort to erase Palestinian existence from Gaza.”

In addition to the violence, the report accuses Israel of effectively strangling Gaza’s access to essential humanitarian aid. Amnesty criticizes Israel’s blockade, which has prevented vital supplies, including food, water, and medical equipment, from reaching the civilian population.

“The systematic denial of access to humanitarian aid, including essential medical supplies, is a deliberate attempt to starve and dehumanize the population of Gaza,” said Callamard.

“These actions, taken together, demonstrate a clear intent to destroy the Palestinian people, both physically and psychologically.”
Israel said the Amnesty International report was “entirely false” on Thursday.
“The deplorable and fanatical organisation Amnesty International has once again produced a fabricated report that is entirely false and based on lies,” Israel’s foreign ministry said in a statement.

The release of Amnesty’s report comes at a time when international calls for a ceasefire and greater accountability are growing louder. The United Nations, along with several other human rights organizations, has called for an independent investigation into potential war crimes committed by all parties involved in the conflict. Despite the growing pressure, Israel has largely ignored these calls, insisting that its military operations are necessary for national security.

Amnesty’s report adds to the mounting evidence of widespread violations of international law in Gaza, urging the international community to take decisive action.

“The international community cannot turn a blind eye to the systematic destruction of a people,” Callamard concluded.

“It is time for states to act and demand accountability for these crimes.”

As the humanitarian situation in Gaza deteriorates further, the urgency for a peaceful resolution to the conflict grows. Amnesty’s findings underscore the need for an immediate end to the violence and the protection of civilians on both sides of the conflict.
