DaysofPal- The Israeli occupation’s interior ministry has moved to assign official registration codes to five settlement outposts in the occupied West Bank, a step that would formalize their status and enable further construction on Palestinian land, Israeli media reported on Friday.
According to Channel 7, the decision includes Havat Gilad, an outpost established on privately owned Palestinian land southwest of Nablus, which will now be incorporated into the Israeli list of officially recognized settlements.
Once registered, the outposts will become eligible for state funding and municipal budgets and will be connected to national infrastructure systems such as electricity, water, and sewage.
The designation also opens the door for expanded construction under Israeli planning laws.
Media reports said the pace of settlement legalization has accelerated significantly under the tenure of Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, reinforcing Israeli occupation over large portions of Area C, which remains under full Israeli military and administrative control.
Smotrich has previously stated that his government secured recognition for 25 settlements within two months, describing the policy as bringing the settlement regulation process to a close. He also said the measures were intended to eliminate prospects for the establishment of a Palestinian state.
Earlier this week, Defense Minister Israel Katz announced plans to approve more than 140 settlement outposts and agricultural settlement farms across the West Bank, saying the initiative was aimed at strengthening Israeli settlement activity and countering Palestinian efforts to assert control over the territory.
Palestinians and international human rights organizations have long described settlement outposts as hubs for settler violence, accusing their residents of carrying out attacks on Palestinian communities, farmland, and property.
In a related report, the French newspaper Le Monde said in late January that Israeli infrastructure projects, particularly road networks, have become central to the settlement enterprise.
The report characterized these developments as political and security measures designed to entrench Israeli control and undermine the feasibility of a future Palestinian state.
Meanwhile, the Palestinian Authority’s Wall and Settlement Resistance Commission reported that Israeli forces and settlers carried out 1,872 attacks across the West Bank in January alone.
Of these, 1,404 were attributed to Israeli forces, while 468 were carried out by settlers, according to the commission.
