Israeli occupation authorities issued on Thursday, August 31, 2023, demolition notices for nine Palestinian homes in the Al-Bustan neighborhood, located south of the revered Al-Aqsa Mosque.
Local sources within the neighborhood reported that municipal teams, accompanied by Israeli forces, entered Al-Bustan and affixed demolition notices to nine residential properties. Additionally, the homeowners of the targeted houses were summoned to appear before the municipality’s “Building Inspection Department.”
Renowned Jerusalem affairs researcher and expert, Fakhri Abu Thiab, warned that Israeli forces are reissuing demolition orders in the Al-Bustan neighborhood.
The families of Abu Thiab, Abu Rajab, Qaraeen, Abu Shafi, and Ayyad are at risk of losing their homes. Abu Thiab cautioned that the intention behind this move is to compel the homeowners of these endangered properties to confess to unauthorized construction. Such confessions could expedite the demolition process without resorting to a legal court process.
The Al-Bustan neighborhood, home to approximately 1,500 Palestinians, is facing the dire prospect of complete demolition by the Jerusalem municipality, controlled by Israeli authorities.
