The Israeli occupation has escalated issuing life imprisonment sentences against the Palestinian detainees so far in 2023, where Israeli courts sentenced eight detainees to life imprisonment, the Palestine Center for Prisoners Studies reported Wednesday, July 12, 2023.
PCPS indicated that the number of Palestinian detainees sentenced to life imprisonment in Israeli prisons rose to 560, the highest of whom is detainee Abdullah Al-Barghouthi who has been sentenced to life imprisonment 67 times.
Detainee Mohammad Atawna, from Hebron, has been sentenced to life imprisonment and a fine of million shekels.
Detainee Alaa Qabha, from occupied Jenin, has been sentenced to life imprisonment and 50 years in prison.
Israeli courts sentenced Muath Al-Najaar, from Silwad, to life imprisonment twice and a fine of one million and 90 thousand shekels
Detainees Yahya Mar’i and Yusuf Asi, from Salfit, have been sentenced to life imprisonment, 30 years in prison, and a fine of one and a half million shekels.
Another two detainees, namely As’ad Al-Rufa’i and Subhi Subaihat, from Jenin, have been sentenced to life imprisonment four times, 20 years in prison, and a fine of three million shekels.
Riyad Al-Ashqar, Director of the Palestine Center, indicated that the life sentence is determined by the Israeli occupation for 99 years in prison, targeting “security” detainees whom it accuses of killing Israeli settlers or soldiers.
According to the latest Palestinian statistics, there are about 5000 Palestinian detainees in Israeli prisons, including 160 minors, 29 women, 750 patients, and 1200 administrative detainees.
