Israeli Occupation Navy Attacks Palestinian Fishing Boats in Gaza Strip

Af.M | DOP -

Israeli occupation navy fired on Sunday, 12 March 2023 live bullets and gas bombs at Palestinian fishing boats in the northern part of the besieged Gaza Strip.

Local media sources reported that the IOF stationed in the gunboats fired live bullets, tear gas canisters, and stun grenades toward the Palestinian boats of the fishermen working in the sea of the Al-Waha and Al-Sudania areas.

Israeli navy opened wastewater hoses toward the Palestinian fishermen’s boats and forced them to return to the shore, sources added.

On daily basis, the Israeli naval forces open fire at fishermen’s boats, injuring and arresting a number of them under the pretext of crossing the permitted fishing zone.

In 2022, the Israeli occupation navy carried out an average of 30 violations against Palestinian fishermen per month, according to an annual report issued by the Palestinian General Federation of Trade Unions.

Israeli occupation continues its illegal practices against Palestinian fishers, which are part of Israel’s illegal siege that amounts to a prohibited collective punishment under international law.

It is worth mentioning that Israeli occupation authorities still prohibit the entry of essential fishing materials and supplies to the besieged enclave as part of their suffocating siege imposed on Gaza since 2007.
