DaysofPal- Israeli occupation forces forcibly evicted three Palestinian families on Sunday from their homes in the town of Silwan, south of Al-Aqsa Mosque in occupied Jerusalem, in preparation for handing them over to settler organizations.
According to the Jerusalem Governorate, a large force of Israeli troops stormed the Batin al-Hawa neighborhood in Silwan, blocking all access roads before deploying heavily in the area to enforce an eviction order against three homes belonging to the Shweiki and Odeh families. The targeted properties included the home of Asmahan Shweiki, her son Ahmed Shweiki’s residence, and the home of Jumaa Odeh.
The governorate reported that Israeli forces assaulted members of the families during the eviction. Asmahan Shweiki’s health seriously deteriorated after being forcibly removed from her home, causing her to lose consciousness and requiring her to be transported to the hospital for treatment.
Ahmed Shweiki said that the family had received an eviction notice from Israeli authorities ordering them to vacate the house by October 19, 2024, under the pretext that the land belongs to Jews. However, their lawyer succeeded in extending the deadline until November 30. Despite this, occupation forces raided their home without warning and emptied it entirely.
He added that Israeli officers beat him severely, causing various injuries and bruises.
The Jerusalem Governorate explained that these eviction orders are part of a broader settlement plan to forcibly displace residents from the Batin al-Hawa neighborhood in favor of the extremist settler group “Ateret Cohanim,” which claims ownership of approximately five dunams and 200 square meters of land in the area, allegedly belonging to Yemeni Jews since 1881.
Currently, around 750 Palestinians from 87 Jerusalemite families live in the neighborhood, all of whom face eviction orders in Israeli courts. This is part of a systematic Judaization campaign spearheaded by settler organizations with direct support from the Israeli government, aimed at expanding settlement outposts in the heart of Silwan, near Al-Aqsa Mosque.
