The Israeli occupation municipality crews demolished Tuesday, December 20, 2022, two Palestinian facilities in the town of Silwan, south of Al-Aqsa Mosque, under the pretext of building without a permit.
In the Ras al-Amud neighborhood, the occupation forces surrounded a residential Palestinian building, stormed the roof of the building, and proceeded to demolish and dismantle what remained of a house belonging to the Abu Farha family under the pretext of building without a permit.
The family had self-demolished their house while it was under construction by “a decision of the municipality” last month in order to avoid paying financial fines, while the Israeli municipality returned today and stormed the site and demolished the remaining parts of the house.
In the Al-Bustan neighborhood in Silwan, the Wadi Hilweh Information Center – Jerusalem stated that the Israeli occupation municipality crews demolished a “corridor and road” for the Abu Rajab family, linking the family’s house to the main street.
The center stated that the occupation forces surrounded the family’s house in Al-Bustan, and prevented access to the demolition site.
Using the pretext of building without a permit, which is rarely granted to Palestinians in the occupied city, the Israeli municipality has demolished and forced Palestinians to demolish hundreds of Palestinian-owned houses as part of a policy to restrict Palestinian expansion in occupied Jerusalem.
At the same time, the municipality and government build tens of thousands of housing units in illegal settlements in East Jerusalem for Jews with the goal to offset the demographic balance in favor of the Jewish settlers in the occupied city.
On Sunday, November 14, 2022, the Israeli occupation prepared a plan to construct 9000 illegal settlement units on Palestinian lands of the shuttered Qalandia airport, north of occupied Jerusalem, in the West Bank.
