Israeli occupation forces targeted Thursday, January 19, the headquarters of the Islamic Heritage and Research Institute – Bayt al-Maqdis, Mithaq, in the town of Abu Dis, east of occupied Jerusalem, with gas bombs.
Counselor Khalil Al-Rifai, Dean of Methaq, said that the Israeli occupation forces extensively targeted the Methaq building with gas bombs, which shattered the windows.
Al-Rifai stressed, “This attack onMithaq is an attempt to silence us from telling the Palestinian truth, and exposing the falsehood of the Israeli narrative.”
He added, “This attack aims to break the will of our people and prevent national institutions from continuing their role in exposing the crimes of the occupation, and it is a failed attempt that did not and will not discourage us from continuing our role in exposing the falsity of the Israeli narrative.”
Al-Rifai called on the international community and human rights institutions to stand up to their duties towards the Palestinian issue and stop occupation’s continued assault on Palestinian national institutions, and the assault on everything that is Palestinian. He stressed that they will document this crime for the purposes of legal prosecution.
The Palestinian National Committee for Education, Culture and Science expressed its strong condemnation and denunciation of the occupation forces’ attack on the headquarters of the Islamic Heritage Revival and Research Foundation – Bayt Al-Maqdis (Methaq) affiliated to the Palestinian Ministry of Awqaf and Religious Affairs.
It said that this step reflects the occupation’s continued targeting of cultural and educational institutions in Jerusalem and Palestine, and an attempt to steal, distort and destroy Palestinian history, heritage and national identity.
It called on the relevant international, regional and Arab institutions and organizations to urgently act in order to protect the Palestinian cultural and educational institutions, especially the “Methaq” institution, which works in accordance with international and regional trends in protecting the Palestinian heritage.
