The Israeli occupation displaced on Saturday morning a Palestinian family after forcing it to demolish its own house in the east Jerusalem district of Silwan at the pretext of unlicensed construction.
According to local sources, the family of Hadia had to demolish its home in Silwan, which it had built about 12 years ago, after receiving a demolition notice from the Israeli municipality.
The family was ordered to raze the house at their own expense if it wanted to avoid paying demolition expenses and fines to the municipality.
The family of Hadia had tried for 10 years to have the house licensed, but no avail, and paid a total of 50,000 shekels in fines to the municipality, which refused to freeze the demolition measure.
Hundreds of Jerusalemite homes are threatened with demolition or appropriation as part of Israel’s Judaization plans in the holy city.
The Jerusalemites have no choice but to build without licenses because there are no structural maps that respond to the natural increase in their numbers.
The Israeli occupation also imposes building restrictions on the Palestinian natives in Jerusalem and makes it hard for them to obtain construction licenses.
Israel’s systematic demolition of Palestinian homes in the occupied holy city is believed to be aimed at psychologically destroying the Jerusalemite families in an attempt to force them to move from the city.
