Israeli occupation authorities compelled a Palestinian family from the city of Rahat in the Negev, within the 1948-occupied lands, to self-demolish their own home on Wednesday morning, August 23, 2023.
For nearly two decades, the Abu Ghanem family of Rahat had established a cherished home that embraced their dreams, laughter, and shared moments.
However, their life took a sorrowful turn when compelled by Israeli authorities, they were forced to demolish the home they had lovingly cultivated for 17 years.
The family members found themselves coerced into demolishing their homes to avoid the demolition costs and fines that the occupation threatened to impose in case they did not carry out the demolition operation themselves.
Palestinian sources pointed out that Israeli occupation police, accompanied by affiliated units, stormed the area where the family resides, giving them a mere 10 minutes to evacuate and demolish the house.
Palestinian villages and towns within the 1948-occupied territories are currently witnessing an escalation in home demolitions, along with the destruction of commercial establishments and industrial workshops under the pretext of unauthorized construction.
