Since the beginning of this year, the Israeli occupation forces have arrested 450 Palestinian children, most of them from the occupied city of Jerusalem, the Commission for Prisoners and Ex-Prisoners Affairs reported.
The commission said that Jerusalem recorded 78.4% of the total Palestinian children who have been arrested this year, which is 353 children.
It stressed that the occupation authorities are still holding approximately 170 children in their prisons and detention centers.
Also, it pointed out that the Israeli occupation does not take into account their young age, the innocence of their childhood, or their weak physical structure. The occupation does not provide them with the minimum of their basic and humanitarian needs, contrary to what is stipulated in international human rights conventions, specifically the Convention on the Rights of the Child.
The commission noted that the occupation forces deliberately arrest children from their homes at night, and sometimes while they are playing in the streets, or on their way to school, and detain them in bad conditions and deprive them of their most basic rights.
