Israeli Navy targeted on Monday, August 14, 2023, Palestinian fishing boats off the coast of Gaza City.
The Israeli naval boats opened fire toward the fishing boats approximately three miles off the shores of Gaza City. Fortunately, no injuries were reported among the fishermen.
These incidents are part of a recurring pattern where Israeli naval forces intentionally cause harm to Palestinian fishermen and deprive them of their livelihoods.
Almost on a daily basis, the fishermen are pursued while they are at sea. Their equipment is damaged, their boats confiscated, and some of them are injured or detained under the pretext of crossing beyond the designated fishing zone.
Fishing is a crucial source of income for many families in Gaza, an area already grappling with dire economic conditions due to the ongoing Israeli blockade and restrictions on movement.
